We recently completed a comprehensive scaffolding project at the former Moorgate Primary School in Tamworth, Staffordshire. This Victorian building required specialist access solutions to enable essential restoration work that will secure its future as a historic landmark.
The Building’s Story
Built in 1898, Moorgate Primary served the local community for over a century before relocating to modern facilities in 2015. The original Victorian building is now locally listed and sits within Tamworth’s Hospital Street Conservation Area. The current restoration forms part of a broader regeneration initiative aimed at preserving the area’s architectural heritage.
The Restoration Project
Local Weathershield Ltd engaged us to provide scaffolding access for their comprehensive restoration programme, which included:
- Essential roof repairs across the main building
- Repointing and structural repairs to the chimney stack
- Full restoration of the distinctive Victorian belltower
The building’s steep roof pitches, period brickwork, and numerous architectural features required carefully planned scaffolding installation to ensure both safe access and protection of historic elements during the project.

Specialist Heritage Scaffolding
We have extensive experience working on listed buildings and heritage sites across the region, from medieval churches to Victorian civic buildings. These projects require precise scaffold positioning that respects the building’s historical character whilst meeting all modern safety standards. Our approach ensures restoration teams can carry out their work effectively without compromising the building’s integrity.

Enabling Essential Maintenance
Our scaffolding solution provided Local Weathershield’s restoration team with secure access to every area requiring attention. Many parts of the building hadn’t received proper maintenance for decades, making this comprehensive access crucial for addressing accumulated deterioration and preventing further damage.
Supporting Heritage Conservation
The Moorgate Primary restoration demonstrates the vital role that proper access infrastructure plays in heritage conservation. By enabling thorough restoration work, our scaffolding contributes to preserving significant Victorian architecture for future generations.
The completed restoration will return this historic school building to active use, showcasing how professional conservation work can successfully revitalise important community landmarks.
